David Paul Martinez, 42, a resident of Abiquiu, passed away on Sunday, July 15, 2018. He was preceded in death by his mother, Magdalena Hernandez; father, J.B. Martinez; maternal grandparents, Procopio and Angelina Maestas and paternal grandparents, Luis Salamon, Estella Martinez; and aunt, Viola Mondragon. David was a good father who loved his children very much. He taught them the value of hard work and to be respectful. He was so proud that his children lived up to his expectations. He loved hunting, fishing, being in the mountains, working with the cows and spending time with his children. He was a talented mechanic who could fix anything. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him. David is survived by his children, the loves of his life, Angel, Ariana and Matthew Martinez; wife, Monica Herrera; step-father who raised him as his own, Isidro “Skippy” Hernandez; brother, Jaime Hernandez; sister, Pam Apodaca and husband Roger; God-daughter, Kayla Apodaca and grand-nephew, Aiden Gonzales; aunts, Dutsie Barela and husband Antonio, Mabel Carroll and husband Howard, Lynn Jacquez and husband Arnold, Ruth Dunlap and Mary Buttry; uncle, Sammy Martinez and wife Virginia; special cousins, Tomas Barela, Procopio Gonzales, Ruben Maestas, and Edwin Gurule. A rosary will be recited on Friday, July 20, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Abiquiu. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, July 21, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. also at St. Thomas Catholic Church with burial to follow at the Abiquiu Cemetery. Serving the family as honorary pallbearers will be Jaime Hernandez, Tomas Barela, Procopio Gonzales, Ruben Maestas, Arnold Jacquez, Adrian Martinez, Antonio Gonzales, Kathy Barela, LeeAnn Barela, Angie Maestas, Marcus Barela and Mikeala Maestas. The family of David Paul Martinez has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
