ANTONIO HERRERA, 29, a resident of Dixon, passed away on Tuesday, May 1, 2018. He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Antonio and Eloisa Herrera; Tio Tony and Tia Conchita Herrera of Dixon and Tia Carol Martinez of Espanola, NM; maternal grandfathers, Dennis Gallegos and Robert Thompson and his best friend, Jerry Muniz. Antonio's number one passion was to spend time with his son as well as his family, his second passion was skiing. He worked the winter months as a ski and snowboard instructor at the Sipapu Ski Resort; with all whom were a second family to him. He loved spending time outdoors enjoying the scenery and fishing. He was a jack of all trades who enjoyed mechanic and auto body work, especially fixing up his 1969 Chevy Impala. He was a very talented artist who loved to draw and make wood burnings. Antonio is survived by his parents, Lawrence Herrera and Teresa Gallegos of Dixon, NM; son, Antonio Herrera Jr. of Dixon; fiancé, Brianna Villapando; stepdaughter, Adrianna Ramirez; sisters, Angelica Herrera of Dixon, Lenora Herrera of Alcalde, Michelle(Paul) Valdez of Velarde and Nicole England of Espanola; brother, Daniel Maestas of Espanola; nieces, Kyla Medina, Estrella Brito, Sophia and Sydney Maes; nephews, Thomas, Isaiah, Devon Valdez, and Joseph Medina; maternal grandmother, Eliza Thompson, Godparents, Dennis and Tammy Gallegos of Santa Cruz; aunt, Bernadette (Eric) of Santa Cruz, uncle, Larry Gallegos(Roseann) of Santa Cruz, aunt, Gina Martinez(Nelson) of Albuquerque, uncles, Robert Gonzales of Dixon, Frank and Juan Herrera of Dixon, aunt, Lillian Herrera of Albuquerque and many other cousins and friends whom he loved dearly.
Public visitation will begin on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the San Antonio de Padua Catholic Church in Dixon. Burial to follow at the Dixon Cemetery. Serving the family as pallbearers are Joaquin Martinez,Terrance Gallegos,Thomas Valdez, Andrew Atencio, Andrew Archuleta, Jeremy Gurule, Trevor Dragoo, and Joseph Medina. The family of Antonio Herrera has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
