Seferina Martinez

Seferina Martinez , 91, born on February 12, 1927 and a resident of Chimayo, went to be with our Lord on Sunday, July 22, 2018. Seferina will be greeted by her husband, Ascencion Y. Martinez; parents, Jose Maria and Juanita Coriz; sisters, Carmelita and Dulcinia Martinez; daughter, Corina; grandson, Joseph Martinez and great-granddaughter, Angelica Valdez. Seferina was married in 1944 and spent 67 years with her compañero, Ascencion “Sunshine” Martinez. Seferina was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was strong in her convictions but had a great sense of humor. Seferina worked hard as a homemaker and worked with her compañero Sunshine farming and making ristras. She was an amazing cook and always welcomed family and friends to her kitchen. Through her faith and love of the Lord, she instilled love, faith, hardwork and generosity into her family. Seferina and Ascencion were members of Templo Calvario (The Lighthouse) Assembly of God Church in Chimayo throughout their lives. Seferina is survived by her children, Gilbert Martinez (Dorothy), Helen Trujillo (Julian), Rosendo Martinez, Dalila Archuleta (Pete), Ascencion Martinez Jr. (Bobbie), Noel Martinez and companion Ramoncita, Toby Martinez (Audrey), Evelyn Martinez (Joseph) and Eric Martinez (Diane); sisters, Aurelia Vigil and Grace Salazar; 19 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and many other relatives. Public visitation will be on Wednesday, July 25 2018 at 6:00 pm at the Lighthouse Church in Chimayo followed by an evening service at 7:00 pm. Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, July 26, 2018 also at the Lighthouse Church with burial to follow at the Assembly of God Cemetery in Chimayo. Serving as pallbearers will be Allen Trujillo, Walter, Eli, Joshua, Eric Jr, Gilbert Jr. Martinez, Jamie, and Pete Jr. Archuleta. Honorary Pallbearers will be her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  The family of Seferina Martinez has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
